"P" Family Portrait Session - Southern NJ and Philadelphia Wedding & Portrait Photographer

The "P" family have been great clients. We shot their wedding and this is our second time doing their family portraits. We wanted to go outside but with the baby only being 2 months old and it was kind of rainy. But we had a lot of fun and the kids even had donuts & coffee for being so good.

I am always amazed at all the different style of weddings we’ve been blessed to capture. Hkawng Lum and NangTsin’s was our second wedding that has had parts of it from a different culture. They are from Burma and they have some of the coolest customs. First, I have to say any wedding that has a sword is already cool regardless of anything else, more on that later.

Everyone started in traditional American dress, gowns and tuxedos. We got together for some bridal party shots at a local university campus, and yes it was raining. We kept telling everyone to keep praying, and praise God he gave us 15 minutes of no rain to run outside for a few shots. Then back in the limo, go home and get dressed in the traditional Burmese dress. The ladies wore a red wool wrap skirt with a black top. The skirt is woven with interesting patterns and every shirt is different. The top is covered with silver dangling charms, incredibly intricate work. I was asking all kinds of questions because I always like to learn so I think I have my facts right on this; the outfits are given to the girls by their parents. The men wear beige linen. I didn’t hear any significance to their dress. Now for the sword, the bride’s family presents it to the groom during the ceremony to signify his role as protector of his wife and family. Right before we left for the church the bride’s uncle prayed a blessing on her.

During the reception the couple gave gifts to every guest and even guest was given the opportunity to pass down some wisdom to the new couple. Why don’t we do that? I think all of us could learn something from our wise elders that we know.

I pray God blesses this couple in their new lives together.

Meet Sadie - Southern NJ and Philadelphia Wedding & Portrait Photographer

My niece and her husband have the coolest dog. I guess she's my grand niece dog? Anyway my kids love her. Just don't get hit by her tail, it's always wagging at about 100mph.

We met Hkawng Lum & NangTsin on the steps of the Art Museum not knowing what the either looked like. Normally we meet the couple before but this was odd circumstances. I had told Nangtsin that Ruth and I would be together and look for a black camera bag. Within minutes of reaching the top of the steps, NangTsin walked up, "Walter?"

We had a gorgeous day for shooting. It also helps when you have a good looking couple to work with. That's why I'm behind the camera not in front.

I can't wait for their wedding. It will have many Burmese traditions involved. That clothing sounds incredible. I love learning about different cultures. Yes, America the great melting pot.
