Why did you become a wedding photographer?

This is one of the most frequent question that's asked of me when I meet a new couple. Well to be completely honest, I didn't set out to be a wedding photographer. When I first started out in photography I did what most people do and took pretty pictures of landscapes and wildlife. I really didn't like taking pictures of people. Then as I got a little better equipment, I started to get interested in shooting sports. I still didn't like taking pictures of people but I liked the sports part.

Then my world changed, I got married. A few years later we started having children. I liked taking pictures of our babies. I enjoyed the fascination they have with everything. Trying to capture their inquisitiveness on film was very challenging. It wasn't too much longer before I was starting to take baby & kids portraits.

After starting my business I started getting many trade magazines. The wedding photographers grabbed my attention. Their ability to catch the moment, the romance, the excitement of the day; it looked like something I'd like to do. I started implementing this in my portrait sessions. It was so much more fun than posing stiff people in front of hot lights.

I had a friend ask me to shoot her wedding. I agreed. The rest is history. There is so much to do, to capture, sometimes to chase. What a rush. I LOVE BEING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER! The chance to record that special day for a couple and for those pictures to be handed down to generations.
Now that my wife and I shoot together it's even more satisfying, being able to work with my Love. My wife and I have been married for over 19 years and we more in love now than ever. We love being able to share in those moments. We kind of look at it as our way to get the new couple off to a good start.
